Jeweller Azza Fahmy is transforming Chiltern Street’s Shreeji News into an Egyptian treasure trove
Egyptian heritage brand; Azza Fahmy is bringing a little bit of Cairo to Chiltern Street by transforming the [very busy] Shreeji News pop up space into a two-day cornucopia of jewellery, stories about Egypt and traditional craftsmanship.
Egyptian heritage jewellery brand Azza Fahmy is truly making the summer London pop-up worth your while. Fresh off a Home by Ronan McKenzie x Mulberry pop up, Shreeji Newsagents welcomes a different perspective for all to participate in.
Founded in Cairo in 1969 by Azza Fahmy (watch our tank.tv films on the brand released earlier this year), the brand has spent nearly 5 decades creating Egyptian jewellery through a distinctive blend of traditional craftsmanship and heritage techniques, cultural storytelling and education. Now, bringing Cairo to London, Azza Fahmy is travelling 5511km to transform Chiltern Street's most loved pop-up space and turn it into an interactive treasure trove celebrating the pillars of its own design philosophy.
Over the 4th and 5th of September, anyone who pops in is invited to take part in a participatory storyline whereby traditional newsagent ephemera will be transformed into an immersive environment that leaves each guest with a unique “News From Egypt Folder.” Filled with discoverable keepsakes whether that be stamps, postcards, secret letters, stationary or calligraphy - the experience reflects the brand’s enduring fascination with how history transmits through stories by drawing “on the idea of the newsagent as a place where stories, images and information from around the world meet.” Elsewhere, Azza Fahmy will share the behind-the-scenes of their hand-crafted design process. Expect hidden drawers to reveal jewellery prototypes, wax carvings and calligraphy notes, whilst a craftsman's toolkit spotlights the very evolution of technology from Ancient Egypt to the present day.
So, if you feel the need to travel some more, while not having to enter an airport, then join Azza Fahmy’s spellbinding world right in the heart of London and expand your horizons!
