Ganni collaborates with Lululemon
The athleisure institution joins forces with the Copenhagen-based label for a collection inspired by 1980s dancewear.
Leopard, ruffles and leg warmers: the eighties are back with Ganni’s new collection for Lululemon. Launching today, the 15th of October, the 22-piece collection is colourful, fun and unabashedly bold, inspired by the dance movies of the 1980s. “I’ve always been drawn to the energy, determination and sense of freedom in those films, and the way dance becomes such a powerful form of self-expression,” says Ditte Reffstrup, creative director at Ganni.
Dancewear, also known as balletcore, has been one of the most defining trends of the last half-dozen years, and there is no better place to pluck inspiration than the source. The five-piece set of ruffled headbands – in colours ranging from teal to baby pink – compliments every colourway in the collection, whilst the grey sweatshirt-style bolero and merino-blend leg warmers are quintessential for any ballet-inspired collection. A particular stand-out is the three-piece leopard print line, with leggings, a tank top and a jacket (with a matching water bottle!) which brings a sort of fierceness we all wish we could inhabit whilst working out.
For those more athleisure than athletics, the ruffle-trimmed mesh midi dress and matching jacket-and-trouser combo feels more classic Ganni, enveloping the wearer in an ivory and teal semi-sheer cocoon perfect for post-workout coffees or strolls through the park. The campaign for the collection stars actor Jennifer Beals (of Flashdance fame!) and dancer Mette coming together in a studio with the sort of feel-good plot of a classic 80s dance film.
