Known for his lively shows, bold use of colour and shimmering sequin embellishment, we are thrilled to see Ashish back on schedule this fashion week. After a short hiatus from the schedule and a dazzling retrospective at the storied William Morris Gallery, Ashish’s return has stirred our excitement.
We asked him 10 questions ahead of the show...
Describe your SS24 collection in 3 words…
Magical, dreamy, fantasy
Name one person, living or dead, that you would want to wear the collection.
Troye Sivan
What are your pre-show rituals?
Strong coffee and trying to retain a sense of calm. And I always speak to my mum on the phone on the morning of a show
What will you be listening to pre-show?
Asha Puthli's snakey sexy intergalactic disco
What is the first thing on your show-day packing list/in your bag?
Probably paracetamol
What's your favourite piece in the collection and why?
A barely there gossamer gown delicately embroidered with hundreds of twinkling stars, and a jockstrap dipped in silver
What outfit will you be wearing on show day?
Something all black
What's the first thing you’ll do when the show is over?
Probably get into bed and catch up on And Just Like That...
What is it about London that continues to energise your creativity?
The sense of freedom and the feeling that you could be whoever you want to be
What drives you to keep making clothes?
It's the love of the craft. I never finish collections, I press pause until the next season then pick up where I left off. Because you keep having new ideas, and one thing leads to another. I guess when I run out of ideas or I feel like I have nothing else to make or say through my work, I will stop making clothes.
