Londoners are famously adaptable and unshakable beings; as 2020, the year of the unexpected, descended and the city took a 4-month hiatus, Londoners immediately adapted and got to work: novices in the kitchen began creating artistic baked-goods; garden-phobes suddenly became green-fingered goddesses; and loyal tube-riders tentatively dusted off their bike helmets, after years at the back of the wardrobe. And now a new challenge presents itself to Londoners everywhere: as offices open and meetings resume, how does a Londoner adapt to new travel?

In these bright summer months, our city presents a wider range of options for travel. Summer brings balmy mornings and hazy afternoons, and as a result, many Londoners are opting to walk or cycle across the glittering city instead of hopping on the tube. With fresh air, exercise, and the bonus of some stunning views, Summer 2020 might just be the season of the DIY commute, which is why we’ve curated some outfits to help you do it in style, as Londoners do.

Look One: Cycle Chic
We have Sadiq Khan to thank for the expansion of cycle lanes across London, and cruising past gridlocked traffic could be the transport du jour. Cycling shorts are a must, and this zebra-print pair is functional as well as on-trend; paired with this lilac shirt gives an effortless look. To elevate the outfit, add a corset-style belt, like this one from Fleur de Mal, and a cross-body bag like this one from Rains allows easy access to belongings en route. Accessorise with a headband to keep hair at bay during high-speed travel, and these wraparound sandals from GANNI to complete the look.

Look 2: Tube Trotter
For those who don’t have the luxury of above-ground travel to work, the new essentials include hand sanitiser, like this rosemary and lavender infused one from OSKIA, and of course, a face covering. Anthropologie offer a set of 3 which allows you to co-ordinate with your outfit, so neither safety nor style has to be compromised. This jumpsuit from Paloma Wool is perfect for summer comfort, and will take you through to after-work drinks. Team with these Carvela sandals, which are still comfortable enough to run for the tube to save those all-important 2 minutes.

Look 3: Walking on a Dream
The foundation of any successful walk is the shoes, and these Veja trainers are a timeless shoe that is guaranteed to have you bouncing to work. Team with this floaty cotton dress from Mango, which will keep you comfortable enough to walk long distances, whilst still embracing the season. Pair this simple outfit with these Acne sunglasses and a floppy straw hat from Avenue The Label and you have a great outfit that will function through London’s concrete jungle to the lavender fields of Provence.
