Bee venom face masks? Tried it. Biodegradable detergent? Surprisingly oat-tastic. Digitalised Barre classes? The proof that shouting profanities can make pain a little less painful...

As you can see, at Because we'll happily tread the waters of trialling new products to prove that their USP is worth spending your money on. This week, we've rallied the team to get acquainted with Vitamin C serums, which have been known to give that coveted summer glow. But, do they really work? And with so many on the market, which should you go for? The team have picked three products, trialled them for a week, and given their review, so that we can help you make that decision.

What... Youth to the People 15% Vitamin C + Clean Caffeine Energy Serum

Score... 5/5

Why... I've always been skeptical of products that claim to brighten, having experience far too many that will only do so for a few hours until they oxidise into the atmosphere. But I'm pleased to say that this Vitamin C serum from newly launched Youth to the People has exceeded my expectations. As well as giving me a glow that lasts all day, I love the tingling sensation the caffeine gives when first applied, which does a great job at depuffing my face. Even after just a week of using, I've already noticed my hyperpigmentation starting to reduce. And it's 100% vegan and cruelty-free to boot!

What... Oskia Renaissance Brightlight Serum

Score... 4/5

Why...The serum has a lovely lightweight texture and blends into my skin almost instantly. It feels matte but gives the look of dewy skin, which I love. This week of testing was all about that instant brightening effect and it achieved that by giving off a natural inner glow as opposed to the look of highlighter. But I'm holding out on a full score because every skincare lover knows that using products with vitamin c is a long-haul game and I'm excited to see how it brightens dark spots and evens my complexion with more time!

What… Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Vitamin C serum

Score… 4/5

Why… My week with Ole Henriksen’s Banana Bright Vitamin C serum couldn’t have come at a better time. After the dreadful summer we’ve been having in London, my skin was craving a little glow.  The serum was so lightweight and fast absorbing that it was easy to incorporate in my usual skincare routine. Normally, I’m a bit sceptical with trying new products but a week into using the serum I was surprised that my skin was brighter and had this fresh and clear complexion it so badly needed. Oh, and the smell is delicious so that’s definitely a plus!
