    King Krule

I like to think of King Krule as the Brit school's sort of evil other side, where Adele, Jessie J, Kate Nash, et al, where busy making the kind of cloying sentimental pop music aimed to slowly strangle the charts, King Krule was instead stuck in his bedroom channeling the blue spirit of Lightning Hopkins, the teenage angst of Eddie Cochran and the anti-social aggression of London's contemporaneous bass culture.

    Egyptian Hip Hop

Fruity, Manc teens, Egyptian Hip Hop are back after a little break, and what with them being so young and precocious, it was probably to finish their GCSEs. One likes to imagine they've spent the summer holiday making 'SYH', which works that very of-the-moment dark, minimalist indie, r'n'b, but also sucks in some inspiration from the equally hip-right-now sonics of dance music, with its big, squelchy keyboards.

Only a group so young could so effortlessly magpie their way around this and still make it sound so enticing and effortless.

    Dan Deacon

Since 2009's 'Bromst', Dan Deacon alternately been getting paranoid about the end of the world and working on his brand of contemporary classical. This year he returns to making far-out and wild electronic-pop music, with a record boldly entitled 'America'.

It hints at its large themes but instead of getting bogged down in rhetoric and party politics instead aims for something more akin to the personal is political. At its best it's swarming in throbbing, intoxicating electronics, a fist pumping homage to Deacon's country of birth.
