    Jens Lekman

There's two distinct images of Sweden; one of the dark, rainy and brooding Wallander, populated by bleak, existential detectives, solving bleak, existential crimes. In the other nothing bad ever happens, it's full of improbably beautiful girls, every one sits around at pleasant parties being nice to each other and writing some of the most tender and infectious guitar-pop in the world. This second Sweden is the one of Jens Lekman, who's back with his first full length album since 2007's Night Falls Over Kortedala. 'I Know What Love Isn't' is the first track to surface from it, it's got a flute solo and I don't think anything bad has ever happened in Gothenburg.

    Moon Duo

Formed in San Francisco in 2009 by Wooden Shijps guitarist Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada, Moon Duo's first two EPs fused the futuristic pylon hum and transistor reverb of Suicide or Silver Apples with the heat-haze fuzz of American rock 'n' roll to create tracks of blistering, 12-cylinder space rock.

Their debut album 'Mazes', recorded as the band prepared to move to the mountains of Colorado, explored a far broader, lighter, sound. That's most clear on the dreamy organ and skipping riff of the title track, which recalls the Velvet Underground, or the handclaps and swinging organ bloops over the potent shredding and guttural riff delivered by Johnson in 'When You Cut'.

'Sleepwalker' the first track to emerge since then, and first from their new record, 'Circles', is the product of a long winter's isolation in the Rocky Mountains, it sounds like the vast expansive spaces of the American Frontier, shot into orbit.

    Jai Paul

'Jasmine' by Jai Paul is the kind of track to blast away the dull, creaking, post-weekend blues, not with some rallying angsty call to arms, or thrashing and squeeling guitars, but with its melancholic beauty. 'Jasmine' is sort of sad-funk, reverb heavy Prince-esque guitar mixes with nightbus garage drumlines and r'n'b vocals, totally works in a blissfully odd way.
