    Dan Deacon

Since 2009's 'Bromst', Dan Deacon alternately been getting paranoid about the end of the world and working on his brand of contemporary classical. This year he returns to making far-out and wild electronic-pop music, with a record boldly entitled 'America'.

It hints at its large themes but instead of getting bogged down in rhetoric and party politics instead aims for something more akin to the personal is political. At its best it's swarming in throbbing, intoxicating electronics, a fist pumping homage to Deacon's country of birth.

    Fiction

Seems to take Fiction ages to do anything, doesn't it? Careful popped up on our radar in May, and it's video's just come out. We interviewed them for Tank back in the Spring, and they've still not properly announced that debut record we've all been waiting for. Though it should be coming soon apparently. Till then, this will have to do, and it's lucky it's so brilliant that it might just tide us over till we get some more new stuff from them.

    Jens Lekman

There's two distinct images of Sweden; one of the dark, rainy and brooding Wallander, populated by bleak, existential detectives, solving bleak, existential crimes. In the other nothing bad ever happens, it's full of improbably beautiful girls, every one sits around at pleasant parties being nice to each other and writing some of the most tender and infectious guitar-pop in the world. This second Sweden is the one of Jens Lekman, who's back with his first full length album since 2007's Night Falls Over Kortedala. 'I Know What Love Isn't' is the first track to surface from it, it's got a flute solo and I don't think anything bad has ever happened in Gothenburg.
