    Real Estate

Oh, how sickly sweet are Real Estate? It's enough to make all your teeth fall out. It's great, don't get me wrong, great in the way that a triple-chocolate Gateaux is great, but also, just like that aforementioned cake, also a bit much. Too sweet, too melancholic, too nostalgic to be taken in much more than small doses. I couldn't sit down and eat a whole triple-chocolate Gateaux, but I'll happily have a small slice and really enjoy it. Which is why band's release singles, I guess, and 'Easy' by Real Estate is just about enough for me.

    DEXYS RETURN

Dexys Are Back! Like the script from a sub-par Hollywood movie, the old soul rebel Kevin Rowland has reformed the old band for another go at it, and it's actually wonderful and justifies (just about) his years of boozing all over their legacy. 'Nowhere Is Home' is beautiful, sad, full of classic Dexys horns and Rowland's strange crooning voice. You can't beat a comeback single that includes the line - 'Take your Irish stereotype and shove it up your arse'.

    GRIMES

It seems so long ago now that Claire Boucher previewed her third album, Visions, with this track. The beguiling Canadian singer/producer's record didn't disappoint and it shaping up to be one of the best of the year. 'Oblivion' is still the stand out track with its crisp electro beats infused with an exotic Orientalism and Boucher's ephemeral ghostly voice. Then just to pull it all together its backed by a series of hugely infectious, entwining bass rhythms.
