Ah, Virals, not so much rising from the grave of the brilliant Lovvers (which they used to be) but continuing that bands movement from the snotty, Germs punk-aggro that defined them when they burst onto the 'scene' in 2007 to their second album's lo-fidelity love-punk, all happy jump-up-and-down pogo rhythms and blasts of noise.

Virals is psych-freak-pop, cleansing the ex-Lovvers' frontman Shaun Henchers soul of the last of it's desire to be spitting into the audience, and instead wanting to sing love songs and play tunes that girls can like and play shows that boys can take their girlfriends too, the kind of shows that you don't leave saying "that was brilliant - i lost a tooth".

Some tracks come out of nowhere; Palmistry's new track, 'Night Truths', really does seem to have done so. He's been bubbling under the surface for a while now, making slightly obtuse, down-tempo electronica. This new track though is a bit of a year zero; he's deleted all his old tracks of his soundcloud and just left this in its place. As if a year or so of musical coming-of-age gets swept away when he finally works it out, like the kid who goes to university or moves to a new country and totally reinvents themselves.

'Night Truths', for the uninitiated, is what people mean when they talk about post-dubstep. Maintaining the focus on the 2 Step beat but without the brashness or aggression of dubstep, it's dubstep's coming-down-hard post-club, sofa-and-duvet sonic brother. 'Night Truths' is morose and mournful, with soft drum clicks and the subtlest of bass wobbles, a hint of piano, sirens and overlaid with Palmistry's vocals. On the surface it owes a lot to The XX, yet without the restrained minimalism of the Putney three-piece. Palmistry is instead all about overlapping ideas and sounds, 'Night Truths' crams as much as possible into the track, as if emotional uncertainty gives way to four or five musical ideas that then push their way in.

The lead single from Mogwai-approved Scotsman Errors new album owes a clear debt to the motorik Kraut of Cluster and Harmonia, swirling and accumulating with its pulsing synthesizers, its a change in direction from the bands more math / post-rock sounds, but with the surface complexity gone, Errors are free revel into drum machine minimalism and swirling sonic synthesis. 'Pleasure Palaces' treads a fine line between delicate and forceful, yet treads it very well.
