    Dropped Pianos

Canadian experimental sound artist Tim Hecker has just released a collection of musical sketches titled 'Dropped Pianos' a sister album to the jaw-droppingly beautiful 'Ravedeath, 1972' that came out earlier this year (we featured it in Tank's summer issue).

Tim Hecker's Ravedeath album was an abstract series of drone-like organ compositions, mainly recorded in Iceland; subtle, affecting, reverential. 'Dropped Pianos' is no different, and even if it's billed as a series of 'sketches' it doesn't feel half-finished or even like you couldn't enjoy it without having heard Ravedeath, it is more that the ideas contained on Ravedeath have spilled over into a new LP.

And anyway we're just thankful Tim Hecker's back with new music.

    RIP BERT JANSCH

Legendary Scottish folk musician Bert Jansch has died aged 67 after a two year battle with cancer.

A key figure in the development of British folk music in the 60s and 70s, Jansch influenced a generation of guitarists and musicians. Famed as both a solo musician and for his work with the band Pentangle, possibly most well known for his song Angie but over a career spanning 50 years and some 23 solo albums it's well worth digging beyond, not matter how excellent it is, which is why below you'll find a version of Pentangle's 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken'.

    The 14th

Almost too simple, too easy, too nice, yet The 14th debut track, off their EP 'Hide Yourself' saves itself from mediocrity by being quite beautiful. It shouldn't work, it's too palatable, but as piano gives way to the classic 2 Step beat and Tracy's vocal sits perfectly above it all, it does. One's to look out for in the future here, as this emotional garage-redux group are chart straddlers.
