UP PAST THE NURSERY
Montreal natives Suuns recently released their debut album 'Zeros QC' on the consistently brilliant Secretly Canadian. The album is a beautiful exercise in the abstraction and degeneration of melody, in the manipulation of darkness and shade, glorious rays of light shoot through in almost-epic guitar lines, before they are consumed by the depth they are trying to penetrate.
'Up Past the Nursery' is all twitching and flinching vocals,
recoiling like snakes, creeping over mangled guitars, slinking past
trembling drums. The darkness though, is offset, never all
consuming, or too imposing, like chiaroscuro it's there for
contrast, adding layer of depths in shades of brown, grey and
black.
SUUNS play at Corsica Studios, London, on the 16th May.
