    Dress to Thrill

Proms, weddings, bar mitzvahs and yes, Christmas celebrations, all call for Rat-Pack immaculate tuxedos. Italian tailoring company Brioni and Mr Porter know all about that, and have created a classic evening suit for the festive season. Brioni, founded in Rome in 1945, are true purveyors of snappy Italian suits; the likes of which have been worn by Bonds Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. So it is little wonder Mr Porter have teamed up with them to make suave seasonal dressing simple. Though men’s suits might have moved into more experimental territory for AW12, the tuxedo requires hard and fast rules that shouldn’t be ignored. Never wear it two sizes too big, don’t let the trousers puddle around the ankles and always wear a bow-tie. Brioni’s fail-safe exclusive one-button tux for Mr Porter comes in midnight blue, is fully lined and has twin peak lapels. A pale blue shirt with concealed buttons is also part of the set and there’s even a matching cummerbund and bow tie.

    The Bow Tie Chronicles

Reclaimed from snooker players and “kooky” English professors, Jupe by Jackie’s immaculately hand crafted bow ties should tempt any sceptic. Designer Jackie Villevoye, who set up her brand two years ago, works with painstaking precision to create accessories that would be more appropriately titled works of art. In her atelier in India, a bow tie can take two days to needlepoint, a process that shuns fast fashion. However, Villevoye’s work is not just favoured by men, women are also wearing her designs with buttoned up shirts and AW12’s suits inspired by famous females, Katharine Hepburn, Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, and Marlene Dietrich who wore their masculine tailoring so well. For the winter range, colours are muted in navy, grey and dusty red and detailed in subtle silk patterns. With dapper dressing taken care of, we are left to perfect the art of tying the things.

Henri Lloyd Revives Style Tribe's Consort Jacket

Sir Francis Chichester first made Henri Lloyd’s Consort jacket famous in 1967 when he wore it on his solo voyage around the world. After nine months and two days at sea with Chichester, the Consort became the sailors’ favourite. Skip a decade, with designer Olmes Carretti collaborating, and the jacket was weaving its way through the streets of Milan as a style essential of the Paninaro  – the city’s iconic ‘80s, scooter-obsessed youths. Then came the ‘90s where Formula 1 driver Nigel Mansell paired the jacket with his trademark moustache. Now, with a 50-year birthday to celebrate, no mean feat in penny-pinching times, Henri Lloyd has reincarnated the Carretti Consort. The brand’s move is bold: 16 new colours from cobalt blue to fuchsia join the traditional navy blue. It’s a simple twist on a well-loved number.
