Meet the Man
Boys On Film
“I greatly enjoy collaborations with other artists,” admits Kris van Assche: “it’s one of the great perks of my job!” So, when the time came for the Dior Homme Creative Director to work on his next film collaboration – last year he worked with Willy Vanderperre – the choice was easy; Bruce! “Bruce Weber has been one of the most influential figures in the world of fashion for the past thirty years and he’s particularly fascinating as he brings with him a very personal aesthetic”, he explains. “It made total sense to me to offer him a ‘carte blanche’.”
‘Carte blanche’ for Weber has characteristically resulted in an impressive cast of talented personalities filmed languidly and beautifully in Miami, the location for the latest Dior Homme boutique. And the cast? There’s Sergei Polunin, the Ukrainian ballet dancer who earlier this year stunned the art world by walking away from an illustrious career with the Royal Ballet (at 19 years old he became their youngest ever principal dancer), the accomplished English violinist Charlie Siem who has performed in front of Stephen Hawking and Lady Gaga. And then there’s the incredible violin prodigy, 12-year-old Claudius Agrippa who’s showing an equally impressive talent for sporting a suit! “Miami is my hometown,” says Weber, “and also the hometown of a great ballet company and orchestra and, last but not least, the hometown of the Miami Heat! I made this film with my love for classical music in mind and how, just sometimes, the wildness of the fourth quarter of a basketball game is like the giant leap of a ballet dancer!”
The unique film will be part of a permanent installation within the Miami Design District store. Only the fifth freestanding store in the United States (in addition to two in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles) the multi-dimensional space features the kind of sleek symmetry, luxe materials and tactile finishes synonymous with the brand and offers a signature mix of merchandise including ready-to-wear, accessories and fragrance. diormag.com
