T-shirt - Lacoste
Stripes are now a summer casual staple, sometimes to the brink of
overkill, but just as predictable is the fact that some designers
will invariably refresh the idea enough to make it magic all over
again. Lanvin, John Galliano, Neil Barrett, Missoni, Louis Vuitton,
Thom Browne, Jean Paul Gaultier and Versace all showed stripes in
their summer collections, channeling their enduring appeal and
laid- back cool. The inky, irreverent tie-dye stripes of this
Lacoste l!ve t-shirt sum up the new wave spirit beautifully.
With new creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista on board, casual brand Lacoste is focusing on reaching a younger customer. a new line, Lacoste l!ve, is the latest strategy, with a new store in London's Newburgh street, and a total of 60 stores planned in cities including Paris, Berlin and Zurich.
Whilst maintaining the traditional heritage of the brand named after '20s tennis champion René, Lacoste l!ve is aimed at updating classics with youthful reinterpretations and incorporations of street culture and music (Parisian street artist Honet and New York party photographer cobra snake are among recruits to the cause). The new summer collection comprises two basic trends. The first is bold, utilising primary colours and drawing inspiration from optical art, and the second features slim-fitting Polo shirts with narrow-fit trousers and knitwear.
