Because a funky pair of flares never looked so appealing. With the 1970s on our minds and autumn/winter 2017 collections in stores, it’s time to bring colourful disco trousers back onto the streets and into the clubs. We’re already humming the chorus to Waterloo.

Halpern contrast sequinned trousers (£930)

It doesn’t get more disco than Halpern. An abundance of sequins, longline bodycon silhouettes and bursts of colours, all represent the unapologetic diva attitude Michael Halpern’s woman stands for. They might be literally referencing Bob Mackie’s costumes for Cher, but Halpern’s multicoloured sequinned trousers look absolutely modern – just a white ribbed vest and some big hair will make them sing and stop traffic in the streets.

Miu Miu checked wool trousers (£595)

It seems like Miuccia Prada had some old episodes of That 70’s Show on her Netflix while designing the Pre-Fall 2017 collection for Miu Miu. With their mood being somewhere between going to school and heading to a party, these wool-checked trousers take the classic plaid flair and make it look sexy. A low waist and turned-up cuffs take an idea of a mundane 1970s piece of clothing and elevate it into a wardrobe staple for this season.

Ellery kick-flare wool-blend trousers (£785)

Less Mamma Mia! and more Blade Runner, these black kick-flares with white geometric stitching from Ellery are the kind of trousers that will turn even the biggest futurists into lovers of disco-boogie. They have already become a classic on the fashion week circuit and on the pages of fashion magazines, so it’s just about the right time to join the Ellery sisterhood of flared pants. Membership fee? £785!

Altuzzara Serge brocade trousers (£795)

Floral-embroidered white brocade? Sign us up. The Altuzzara Serge trousers walk the fine line between decadent and outrageous with Pre-Raphaelite flora as inspiration, and the outcome couldn’t be more chic. A classic shape in an unexpected colourway, they are the season-less statement trousers you’ve been looking for.

Gucci floral-printed silk trousers (£795)

You can always count on Alessandro Michele to bring a renaissance painting to life in his colourful collections for Gucci. A pair of dancefloor-approved silk flairs that will guarantee all eyes on you; their pleated cuffs and jacquard serpents printed over colourful florals are like Studio 54 crossed with the Garden of Eden. These trousers were definitely made for dancing.
