Angel, the first fragrance by Thierry Mugler, arrived on fragrance counters in 1992, trailing its unmistakeable, sweet blend of berries, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and patchouli. It sparked and defined the gourmand fragrance genre and, with its luscious praline effect and hugely divisive, love-it-or-hate-it scent, quickly became a worldwide bestseller. Defying the hundreds of new launches every season, it has consistently remained in the perfume top 10 for over 20 years. “We didn’t do any market testing as we knew we had something terrific in our hands,” Angel’s designer, perfumer Olivier Cresp, says. “During the development my wife wore it and she was repeatedly stopped by people on the street asking about it. One evening we had a knock at the door – someone had followed the scent from the elevator, tracing it to our apartment to ask what it was.” Reviving Angel for a new generation, Georgia May Jagger is the new face of the fragrance, taking on the mantle first worn by her mother Jerry Hall, the original Angel woman. “Angel brings back memories of hiding in mum’s wardrobe and dressing up in her Thierry Mugler gowns,” Georgia says. “It’s a huge honour for me to take on this role.”
