    A Jumper for Christmas

Banning the idea that Christmas jumpers only invite ridicule around the dining table, Net-a-Porter has asked a host of designers to create their own versions of the so-bad-it’s-good knits. Some might be more daring than others, but all are guaranteed to be a party season favourite. Meadham Kirchhoff’s embroidered golden baubles on a garish red jumper is inspired by 1960’s gift paper, and Emma Cook’s knit features a massive reindeer on the front. On the classic end of the spectrum, 3.1Phillip Lim has designed a hopeful white Christmas number with snowflakes; while Preen, Maison Martin Margiela and Tibi embrace suitably warm and wintry themes with Christmas trees, reindeers and giant penguins. Other designers are: Maje, Richard Nicoll, Chinti & Parker, Marc Jacobs, Aubin & Wills and Banjo & Natilda.

Prices range from £150 to £945, available at net-a-porter.com.

    Donna Karan hearts for Haiti

Two years ago a magnitude seven earthquake devastated Haiti and although the country has slipped from the news, it is still recovering from the disaster. Fashion designer Donna Karan, moved by the plight of the countries continuing struggle is pushing Haiti’s cause to the forefront with her charity, the Urban Zen Foundation. For Christmas, hundreds of plain papier-mâché hearts made by Haitian artisans will be on sale at DKNY’s Bond Street store. Customers can put their own artistic stamp on the hearts and support a worthy cause while creating personalised Yuletide decorations. To celebrate the Hearts for Haiti project, photographer Rankin has designed an installation using the hearts that will adorn DKNY’s windows until after Christmas. But get there quick; this will be a diminishing display, with customers encouraged to pluck and buy the heart they like. Among the blank white hearts there will be a colourful collection designed by 40 celebrities. Having put their artistic skills to the test, these decorated hearts will go to auction in the early new year.

The hearts for Haiti will be sold at all DKNY stores for the price of £5 throughout the Christmas period with all proceeds going to the Urban Zen Foundation. urbanzen.org

Elbows off the table, hands in laps

At the top of an old Victorian house already serving as Antoni & Alison’s store, the fashion designers have created café Ye Olde World, Super Modern. The room was formerly a space hidden from customers for the designers to sit and dream up collections in, but it has now been transformed into a coffee shop luring its customers with the promise of cake. “We always felt the shop was incomplete – it was like a cake without a cherry on top. This café is our cherry,” say the designers. Customers can now make their way up the narrow staircase to sip hot drinks from fine bone china cups designed by the pair. Not only is the shop the duo's new venture but it also marks 25 years in the industry. We look back at their collections across the decades.

Ye Olde World, Super Modern is at number 43 Rosebery Avenue, EC1 open from November 30th. antoniandalison.co.uk
