    Fanny and Jessy launch e-commerce site

    Seriously cool fashion duo Fanny and Jessy have just launched their brand’s e-commerce website, making their inimitable recipe of effortless tomboy style available online. Becoming friends while studying at the London College of Fashion, they created their brand very soon after graduating in 2009, coining a pronounced design aesthetic that is both easy and strikingly bold and have since caught the eye of Lady Gaga, Jessie J and M.I.A., as well as of numerous fashion editors. The designers' latest autumn/winter collection Sea Foam in Your Eyes, a supreme crossing of clean luxury sportswear in the vein of 70s Halston with pixelated and psychedelic prints inspired by Mexican prayer charms (Milagros), certainly packs a punch when it comes to combining comfort with impact. Their choice of fabrics, from faux-Airtex lazer-cut leathers to texturized denim, give the otherwise easy silhouettes a distinct edge that defines Fanny and Jessy in a nutshell. You can get a piece of their signature unisex touch here; we already have our eye on the stunning bomber with  sea foam-coloured faux suede sleeves, just made for October in London.

    Haizhen wins Fashion Fringe 2012

    The young Chinese designer Haizhen Wang was announced as the 2012 Fashion Fringe competition winner by this year’s Chair Christopher Bailey on the last day of London Fashion Week. Having studied interior design in his hometown, Dalian in North East China, Heizhen later completed the prestigious Central Saint Martins Womenswear Fashion MA and spent a few years working at Max Mara, Boudicca, and All Saints before setting up his own label in 2010.

     

    Demonstrating incredible sophistication with materials, Heizhen took inspiration from Japanese armour and architect Santiago Calatrava for his range of stark and complexly sculptural pieces, all executed in black and white, with the occasional of greys and blues. His warrior-inspired urban looks not only attested to his advanced craftsmanship skills but also to his innovative approach towards reinterpreting heritage traditions and gender identities, very much in the vein of other London avant-gardists such as Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens.

     

    Haizhen’s win will provide him with the financial backing and mentoring to establish his business and prepare a collection for next season’s London Fashion Week; one that, judging from what we’ve seen from him so far, should only be the first step of many star-studded, high-impact shows. He’s definitely on our radar.

    Diesel has got a new dame

    Diesel has recruited a handful of Pretty Young Things to act as the faces of – or more accurately, the rears of – its newly overhauled Fit Your Attitude denim collection. Cool Brit girls Poppy Delevigne, Tali Lennox and Theodora Richards join Canadian-born Coco Rocha and Polish actress Kasia Smutniak in sporting the six new styles of jeans that promise to make the most of a woman's curves.

     

    In denims with larger back pockets, higher yokes and nifty elasticated waistbands designer to flatter derrières, the girls star in stills captured from a Matthew Frost-directed film that will appear throughout Diesel stores. The Fit Your Attitude offering is made up of six different styles – from leg-lengthening skinnies to an androgynous boyfriend silhouette – and this season features ponyskin and lace as collection highlights.
