    Denim Refinery

For those who have ever attempted D.I.Y denim; ill-advisedly hacked the sleeves off a jacket, tried the dip-dye trend of the moment, cut shorts and essentially turned them into knickers, there is hope.

A new service Denim Refinery, initiated by Janet Sung, is designed to alter a lackluster piece of denim and turn it into an unique item you've always wanted and couldn't find anywhere else. The website offers a menu of refinements to re-work an existing garment: from dying, to distressing and applying snakeskin effect. Choose as many options as you like on the website, send your item in and after a few weeks expect a renewed, bespoke piece of denim. Get your old jeans and worn denim at the ready, this is one service that has to be tried.

Matches launch designer charity t-shirt project

With the Diamond Jubilee and the eagerly anticipated Olympic games, 2012 has been a year of celebration for the UK. Naturally everyone wants to get involved, but for many it has been a case of finding the best way to join the party. Luxury retailer Matches have found a solution in getting the most creative and innovative British designers to partner with them on a charity t-shirt project. Proceeds from the sale of twelve exclusive designs, from Jonathan Saunder, JW Anderson and Mary Katrantzou amongst others, will benefit The Dispossessed Fund to fight poverty in London. The designers were asked to sum up the London spirit in their designs and Holly Fulton: "I created a stylised sunburst to represent the enthusiasm and energy that is being generated by London design right now and to encapsulate the fun that lies ahead!" The twelve designs make a colourful statement of what British design looks like right now.

While several feature bold illustrations, JW Anderson and Mary Kantrantzou - true to form - have gone for all out print and Roksanda Illincic has chosen to present a graphic twist on the staple summer vest. This celebratory collaboration is all the more attractive for giving something back to our city in a landmark year.

T-shirts will be available from tomorrow and will be retailing for £60 at www.Matchesfashion.com and in all Matches store locations.

    Good sport

Fashion has recently been swept away by the latest advancements in technology, the functionality and durability it provides. Just look at the recent fascination with neoprene for starters. However, the most apparent influence of technology could be traced in the field of sportswear.

HPE Clothing, a new brand of high performance sport and yoga apparel, is a brainchild of Human Performance specialist Nick Harris. For years, Nick has been working with top class sportsmen: Formula 1 and Grand Slam tournaments winners, enhancing and perfecting their performance through implementing advanced fabric technology in their clothing. Harris's new label employs the knowledge he has built, and effectively combines style and FRESHFIT® fabric technology, which helps the body endure physical exercises and resist bacteria build up.

Thanks to sophisticated tailoring, advanced technology and the comfort it provides, HPE Clothing promises to make the daunting trips to the gym and early morning runs merrier.
