    Brian Rea for Marni

The style bigwigs at Marni have tapped into the very quintessence of fashion: as an artform of self-expression. In their third artist-based collaboration, Marni have recruited the skills of America illustrator and former art director at the New York Times, Brian Rea. In a meeting of quirky and colourful minds, the pair have produced collections for the Marni Foulard 2012 Winter Edition and Marni Mens AW12-13, with Rea's metropolitan scenes scribbled across dresses, tote bags and t-shirts.

The sketches' whimsicality and childlike nature are tinged with a sense of irony and solemnity; Rea's work is as melancholy as it is magical. Marni superstar, Consuelo Castiglioni describes her vision for the collection, wanting it to "clash and mingle in unexpected ways". Looks like Rea and Marni nailed it.

House of Hackney x Opening Ceremony

When interiors brand House of Hackney launched last spring, not only were their edgy Victorian prints the talk of the town, the matching dress on a model from one of their promotional images generated its own buzz. The dark blue dip-dyed baby-doll caused so much chatter that New York-based brand and retailer Opening Ceremony approached House of Hackney to collaborate on a ready-to-wear line. The decision was a no-brainer for co-founder Frieda Gormley whose pedigree has been in fashion, previously working as a buyer for Topshop before joining her other half, Javvy M. Royle on the couple's venture into the interior world.

The House of Hackney for Opening Ceremony Autumn/Winter 2012 collection follows the same aesthetic as its charming home décor. Traditional English prints with a twist adorn Lolita-like dresses, boyfriend cardigans, playful button-down skirts and high-waisted shorts for a soft grunge look. We can already see the ombré T-dresses making its way into our wardrobes, pairing it with socks or tights as autumn arrives.

And since we're all feeling rather chirpy about good old England having spent the weekend flag waving and trying to spot the Queen, it's great to hear that the label are staying true to their British roots. All products from the House of Hackney are made in the UK to support local industry. With Opening Ceremony setting up shop in London this summer, you won't have to go far to grab these exclusive pieces.
