Meet Wes Gordon, the 25 year old designer from Atlanta, who's been busy winning over New York with his perfect cuts and high end luxury pieces. Much has been made of Gordon's age: how can this sprightly young man, hardly a seasoned designer manage to work a collection into covetable pieces that society ladies, her daughter and cool kids are tripping over themselves to nab already? Stockists and buyers too have been elbowing to get the designers in their stores; SAKS bought his very first collection in February 2010.
But on meeting the charming southerner, standing in front of rails of cocktail dresses, exquisite python shorts, and Guipure lace evening jackets, decked out in a a crisp suit, it's clear that Wes Gordon knows what he's doing.
He suavely chats his way through his work. Coercing us into trying everything on and chatting easily about every nuance of SS12. He looks the business too thanks to stints every summer with Oscar de la Renta in between his studies at CSM. Gordon decided if Mr de le Renta wore a suit to the office daily, so would he. His choice of getup sets the tone for the type of collection that we can expect, a sense of luxury with attention to detail and a penchant for tailored evening pieces in sumptuous materials.
We caught up with Gordon, fresh off a plane and slightly jet lagged in his london showroom to find out more about this young talent...
