    Heel, toe and point

Heel, toe and point. Fashion is continuing its current obsession with ballet, hot off the heels of Black Swan's Oscar, as leading designers are trying their hand at creating thirteen layers of stiff tulle - the tutu.

The English National Ballet has invited Moschino, Erdem, Giles Deacon, and Bruce Oldfield among others to showcase their creations on star ballerinas on the catwalk later this month.

Take a sneak peek at Moschino's tutu which has taken inspiration from the 'Pearly Kings and Queens' of England. The black tutu is embellished with mother of pearl and intricate Moschino symbols: M for Moschino, the heart and the peace symbol.

The catwalk show will take place on 29June at the Orangery in Kensington Palace. The tutus will then be auctioned to raise money for the English National Ballet. To book visit www.ballet.org.uk

    New talent arrives at Cacharel

French label, Cacharel, known for their pretty prints and Parisian style, has announced that Ling Liu and Dawei Sun will present their first spring/summer 2012 collection at Paris Fashion Week in October.

The duo will be replacing Cédric Charlier who began reviving the brand in 2009 with recent collections pushing into edgier territory and gathering momentum for Cacharel. Hoping to build off the excitement around the work that the Belgian Charlier has received, the young Chinese duo have already achieved critical acclaim and worked for French fashion power houses.

Along with a host of prizes individually and stints at Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, and John Galliano among others, Ling and Dawei also recently scooped the prestigious jury prize at the 2011 ELLE New Talent Fashion Awards. We anticipate exciting things to come when October comes around.

    Class of 2011

Another year, and another lot of young blood looking to forge their path in the cut throat world of fashion. Last night saw the talents of London College of Fashion BA 2011 graduates saunter down the runway. With a more is more and if in doubt add more approach seemingly adopted by most students, after what's likely to be 12 months of late nights, knitting, crying, stressing and stitching, 25 strong collections emerged. Riots of colour met texture, tribal prints and sportswear demonstrating brilliant technical detailing and craftsmanship from all the designers.

Showcasing your work to throngs of press scribbling away is not bad going for your debut show, but it's the coveted Collection of the Year award that gives one student a rather nice leg up from the rest of the class of 2011.

Winner of the prestigious award was Chinese Wun Wun Nova Chiu for her multi-layered complex designs inspired by the culture of Shangri-La valley in China, where she was born.

Intricately embellished furs in rainbow hues were adorned with silver bells and mirrors, models wore an eclectic assortment of beaded fur hats and the real ace in the hole was her ability to fuse clashing prints, textures and colour for a staggeringly wild collection that somehow didn't feel overworked or forced.
