    3.1 PHILLIP LIM JACKET

Georgie loves this… because punk meets period drama in this 3.1 Phillip Lim creation. A supple black leather jacket confuses stereotypes by mixing romantic tiered ruffles with a spattering of pyramid-square silver studs. Wear with narrow trousers and ultra high heels, because there's a hint of the beautiful rebel in all of us.

Nu Romance is exemplified by Phillip Lim's exclusive jacket for Brown Future Collectables, where Victoriana ruffles meet studded black leather. Not only has leather featured consistently in Lim's collections (leather jackets taking a much boxier shape in Fall 2007) but there is always a recognisable period influence. Tailcoats on biker style jackets (as seen in his Fall 2009 line) and tired ruffles on tops are handled in such a way that Victorian imaginings are curbed just before they materialise as an obvious objective. Instead their positioning within deconstructed, cool tailoring makes them subtly unique features that add an eccentric twist to Lim's otherwise minimalist design ethic. Mixing signature Lim with this season's trends for leather (hello Celine) and unfinished hems (hello Prada), 3.1 Phillip Lim adds punk studding to finish the nonchalant rock 'n' roll aesthetic.

    DRESS UP BLOUSE

Pandora Loves this… because this translucent silk blouse redraws the boundaries of sexy. Dress Up and confuse stereotypes as the sensibilities of the long-sleeved shirt meet the audacity of subtle exposure and youthful cut-outs.

The contradiction of sexy sheers and childlike innocence recalls a familiar theme in this season's collections. In Hermes the sheer shirt is rendered youthful by a pussy-bow neck tie, in Chloé diaphanous fabrics are given a bridal twist in white undulating tiered dresses and in Stella McCartney a see-through white shirt dress evokes the same grown-up sensuality as Dress Up's blouse. Set up in 2006 by Australian fashion graduate Stephanie Downey, Dress Up empathises with the relationship that women have with their clothes. The innocence of exposed panels positioned unexpectedly at the shoulders is emblematic of a childlike aspiration for femininity. We are reminded of the exposed nape of a Geisha's neck, where obvious notions of sexuality are disposed of in place of the sometimes more potent power of suggestion.

    RICHARD NICOLL BLAZER

Pandora loves this… because pastels are the new black, and no one handles those candy shades quite like Richard Nicoll. In the perfect hue of violet, this silk-crepe blazer wraps up British summertime in one fell swoop. Thrown on over a cute-as-pie Charles Anastase tee, we can gladly achieve Nicoll's self-professed spring/summer aim, capturing 'the spirit of escapism' while maintaining his knack for urban cool.

Drawing inspiration from 19th century Tahitian photography (of course!) Nicoll was taken with the 'naive, relaxed attitude to the drape of the fabric and the mix of block colour and print'. An aspiration that translated beautifully in his collection of muted colours, running form grey-on-grey to pinks and purples. Nicoll's London base and Australian nationality is a juxtaposition happily reflected in his designs. Both laid back and urban in equal measure, he appears to be perfecting the art of city daywear, allowing us a sartorial escape from our demanding working week. With a collection that hints at Nicolls growth and the confidence that comes with it, we see his biggest strengths pulled together in cool, pretty harmony and we want a slice!
