It’s easy to get excited about new lipstick and eye palette shades, silken foundations or high-tech mascaras, but it’s rare that a trusty concealer gets the adrenaline pumping. Concealer has a tendency to feel a little boring – think of it as the tooth floss of make-up, necessary but hardly exciting. But a dash of concealer (over blemishes and dark circles) can transform the most tired of faces in a flash. Opt for a shade lighter than your foundation – or skin colour, if you skip foundation entirely – and choose a stick applicator that can be blended in with a brush or a finger. Pots are fine but often attract fluff and dust, which doesn’t look quite so fine on the complexion. Now, this is contentious but always apply concealer after foundation – it will mean you need to use less product, and less product means less caking and flaking, and ergo a more flawless base. For autumn, we’ve picked our favourite concealers for full coverage:

DiorSkin Forever Undercover

Dior has launched a new concealer as part of its famously long-lasting Diorskin Forever range. The formula is thick without being waxy, and glides on under the eye with a soft sponge applicator. It’s waterproof and didn’t budge over a whole day of testing – a heavy lifter.

By Terry Stylo Expert Click Stick

By Terry, headed up by make-up artist Terry de Gunzburg aka the woman who invented YSL’s Touche Éclat, has just launched a whole host of clicking make-up products to its ever-innovative make-up range. The luxurious new stick concealers are deeply pigmented, transferring to the skin with just the slightest of pressure and they are tapered to make application a doddle for even the most novice of users.

Chantecaille Le Camouflage Stylo

Camouflage feels like understatement with Chantecaille’s concealer. A seeming miracle product that covers even the darkest, green-tone under-eye circles, it’s brush application is gentle on this delicate area. The six shades are fairly limited but the added hyaluronic acid keeps the area well-hydrated.
