Fine, thick, unruly, dry, glossy, wiry, short or long - we've all got a head of hair that requires our attention. But most of us, don't really know what to do with what we've got. A morning routine consists of making sure hair is clean and combed, but largely we shy away from experimentation. Generations of women before us braved Farrah Fawcett style flicks, beehives, victory rolls and more – so what to do if you want something different from the norm?

Because, together with Olivia Crighton, founder of Glasshouse Salon are launching our Good Hair Days series of hair tutorials. Follow these easy guides to get, simple unfussy up-dos that don't look as though your about to walk down the aisle.

The Messy Knot

Inspired by the catwalks of 3.1 Phillip Lim and Michael Kors, the messy knot is great easy approach to an up-do that doesn't take long to achieve or look too styled. The knot requires texture to hold it in place as bobby pins alone won't cut it.

How to make your own salt spray:

Empty spray bottle
1 cup of hot water
2 tablespoons sea salt or Epsom salts
1 teaspoon of conditioner
1 teaspoon aloe vera gel
A few drops of your essential oil of choice (we like the holiday-feel of citrus or coconut)
Optional: a teaspoon of vodka acts as a natural preservative

Simply pour all of the ingredients into the spray bottle, screw the lid on, shake for 1-2 minutes to mix and spray! You can either let your hair air dry completely, or after your hair has almost dried you can use the blow-dryer to rough up the roots, adding a bit of extra volume.
