Isfarkand checks into the Mandarin Oriental

When it comes to luxury, details are key and the choice of toiletries provided in the best hotels is a well-considered decision. Very few of us can resist leaving a hotel room without swiping the miniature soaps and potions on offer in the bathrooms and they are often the sole souvenir of your hotel stay (unless you've stolen the bathrobes, which is not classy behaviour and something we would never do …)

The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London has recently launched an exclusive line of products by the British fragrance line Ormonde Jayne into their bathrooms. Guests to the hotel will be able to experience the Isfarkand fragrance by Ormonde Jayne from head to toe including an Isfarkand conditioner, body lotion and soap which are exclusive to guests of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park and not available for general purchase. Isfarkand is a sparkling green lime citrus scent, rolled in peppery spice which skips past vetiver through to a light woody finish after a few hours. Miles above the usual functional fragrances of toiletry products, the Isfarkand range gives another absolutely necessary reason to book into a room at the Mandarin Oriental.

NYFW beauty looks we love: Round 1

Up-dos, soft smokey eyes and contoured cheeks will be the beauty trends for fall if the first wave of New York shows have anything to do with it. Cheek colour was noticeable by its absence. Oh blusher where art thou?

Tom Pecheux was in a grey mood over at Derek Lam and took a dimensional approach to the make-up. The eye was shaded in tones of grey with stragically placed shimmer and highlights on the lashline and centre of the eyelid with lots of mascara to give definition. Lips were coloured in a softly shimmering pink to give the look a pop of pretty (Estee Lauder Pure Color lipsticks in Crystal Pink and Vanilla Truffle). Orlando Pita was on hair duty and created an updo with volume involving lots of backcombing to add shape to the crown. The finish was left with a roughed-up texture and the whole lot twisted into a chignon at the back of the head.

If lips are more your thing, Diane Kendal at Thakoon picked up on the coral accents in the collection by pairing natural looking skin with a matte bright fiery lip using NARS Heatwave lipstick. Brows were defined to frame the eyes but the face looked otherwise bare with a hint of NARS blusher in Exhibit A to add just the merest hint of contour. Also spotted at Thakoon: a black french tip manicure with a deep crescent smile line to elongate the nail.

    The Bigger the Butter

The Rightteous Butter Super Size by Soap & Glory, £25.00 from BOOTS.COM

A Good Kisser by Soap & Glory, £5.00 from BOOTS.COM

Now is the winter of our discomfort. Thank you cold winds, central heating and grey skies for leaving us with dry dehydrated skin, rough chapped lips and a pallor of death upon our mortal bodies. As the mercury plummets and the promise of spring seems naught but wishful thinking, we need a miracle and lots of it. From the land of Soap & Glory, step forward The Righteous Butter. Usually housed in an adequate 300ml pot, for a limited time only it's available in a whopping one litre sized mammoth tub. That's one litre of thick nourishing velvety body cream to massage into your parched limbs daily whilst repeating the mantra "one day spring will come". What's a knight without shining armour? Never fear, the formula comes infused with a sprinkling of diamond-dust shimmer to add some well-needed lustre.

Good things come in small packages too. Dwarfed by its massive sibling, A Great Kisser is a trio of lip balms recently launched by Soap & Glory. With a rich smooth texture that won't slide off within minutes of application, the balm will shield from the elements and keep your lips protected and soft. Whether it's a little tin or large tub, make sure your skin is well protected from the cold.
