Solid perfume is a form adopted by many fragrance brands in the way they once favoured candles for Christmas launches. This season there are examples by Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Estee Lauder and Clinique to choose from. My favourite of the clutch-bag-appropriate scents is Ormonde Jayne's new Sugar Butter Solid Perfume (£64). It is essentially a skin-friendly balm scented with a high quality extract of parfum oil, which you can massage into your pulse points whenever you fancy. The scent builds as your body heats the balm and lingers without the sometimes sharp hit of a perfume. It shimmers ever so slightly on your skin - a hugely sensual way to wear scent.
The new Sugar Butter Solid Pefumes launched initially in Harrods, but go national today. Available in Frangipani, a soft captivating floral; Tolu, a suitably soulful resin scent with amber, golden frankincense and tonka; Ta'if, an exotic, spicy scent combining the year's key fragrance note: oriental rose, or Ormonde Woman signature scent with Black Hemlock, rose absolutes and violet - another fashionable note this year.
