The wait for KHAITE is over!
A new UK pop-up gives the NYC designer some room to roam.
New York's favourite designer celebrates her brand's tenth birthday with its first pop-up this side of the Atlantic.
One of NYC’s most prominent designer darlings, KHAITE, has always been a touch shy about crossing the Atlantic. Luckily for us, a new pop-up in Selfridges is seeking to change that. Situated on the second floor of the department store, the space offers a sleek, immersive experience inspired by Lynchian cinematography and the visual language of Americana.
The design of the space is svelte, graphic and moody: muted neon lights glowing from within corrugated metallic walls, the SS26 collection held bold and defiant against them. This juxtaposition of hard and soft, masculine and feminine, has been the founding drive of KHAITE’s design principles since the beginning. The collection, inspired by American sportswear, is both architectural and wearable, a strength which does not shun practicality. Our standout pieces are the Malone bomber, a relaxed but refined riff on the classic aviator jacket, as well as the Milly pump, a kitten-heeled revision of the suede boat shoe (which is having quite the moment itself). But it’s the playful surrealism of the sculpted hand clutch – an elegant lambskin clutch with gold fingers holding it in place – which most epitomises the brand’s edgy, it girl appeal.
What better way to herald in a decade of this now well-established designer? The array of goods on offer, from ready-to-wear to leather accessories, feels timely given the nascent (though, never not cool) zeitgeist of Manhattanite dressing, not least thanks to Ryan Murphy’s Love Story. The pop-up, which runs from the 2nd of March until the 28th of May, we hope will signal a larger breakthrough of the brand into the European market.
You can find the pop-up on the second floor of Selfridges, Oxford Street, in the Atrium. Otherwise, you can shop the spring summer collection here.
