Comme Goes to Gavel
Our top ten Comme des Garçons lots up for grabs, courtesy of the new Kerry Taylor X dot Comme auction.
From radical early 80s silhouettes to audacious noughties deconstruction, these are the standout lots from dot COMME's extraordinary 265-piece Comme des Garçons archive sale at Kerry Taylor Auctions.
Vintage Comme lovers, set your alarms! Octavius La Rosa, founder of the legendary archival platform dot COMME and of the world’s foremost Comme des Garçons collector, is putting more than 250 lots from his personal archive under the hammer at Kerry Taylor Auctions this September 15th.
Spanning the house’s earliest Tokyo-era garments from the 1970s through to its groundbreaking first Paris runway shows in the 1980s, and then onto the boundary-pushing collections of the 1990s and noughties, the sale offers an extraordinary survey of Rei Kawakubo’s decades-long career. For collectors, it’s a rare chance to own pieces from the archive of a designer’s designer and to trace the evolution of one of fashion’s most radical houses through the garments themselves.
Up for grabs is a black polyester coordinating skirt and blouse from the now titular SS97 ‘Body Meets Dress- Dress Meets Body Collection’, as well as a trompe l’oeil ensemble from the AW05 ‘Broken Bride’ collection, and even editions from Kawakubo’s own protege, Junya Watanabe.
With such an extensive collection going under the hammer, we’ve picked out 10 of the most covetable, historically significant and downright fascinating lots to watch- or buy!
