A Wardrobe for Dreamers

Ian Hylton Takes Over London! And TANK!
From Friday 27th of June at TANK GPS Space
What do you get when you invite one of the chicest men we know - designer, tastemaker, and bon vivant - to London from Xiamen, China to share his collection? For a limited three-week run, Ian Hylton takes over the TANK GPS Space with a curated selection of his most compelling menswear, anchored by one powerful piece: the Magua (马褂).
The Magua is a traditional Chinese horse-riding jacket, originally worn by Manchu horsemen during the Qing dynasty. With its front opening and cropped proportions, it was made for movement, practical, considered, and steeped in culture. Over time, it became a staple in Chinese wardrobes across generations and geographies, including Ian’s own.
“I first started wearing these jackets in High-school, padded and none-padded, in silk or in cotton, and found them all through my career of clothes. They kept re-occurring.” Ian shares. “In this pop up, I celebrate this jacket. After 20 yrs in China, and a long career in Luxury, I’m looking from the East and celebrating an aesthetic that deserves to be celebrated and honored.”
Beyond trend, beyond time, Hylton’s approach is rooted in Xiansheng, the spirit of a gentleman or gentlewoman, a Chinese elegance that brings depth, confidence, and a new kind of value to the experience of dressing well. His silhouettes reflect that spirit: oversized yet precise, expressive yet restrained. Structured jackets with softened shoulders. Relaxed trousers with architectural lines. Shirts that move like water. These are garments made to support the individual, never to speak over them. “My intention is not for the clothes to speak,” Ian says, “but for the individual to speak through their comfort and confidence derived from the clothes.”
In the midst of fast cycles and flash, Ian Hylton offers a different rhythm, one grounded in thoughtfulness, texture, and presence. The TANK GPS space offers rare access to this world as typically, you can only find his collections in China. Within the pop-up, you’ll find a decadent Degournay screen, antiques from Schmid McDonagh from Church Street, and exception furniture from designer Martino Gamper. Whether you're discovering Ian’s work for the first time or already a devotee of his philosophy, from today, this is your chance to experience his pieces in person. No distractions. Just garments made with intention and intelligence.
Open daily from 12PM–6PM for three weeks until July 18th, only at TANK GPS, 91-93 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 7NX, UK
