Tell me about it, stud.
The metal hardware consuming our accessories.

Approved by punk rock icons, 90s supermodels, and now us… metal hardware is taking our wardrobes by storm.

With the resurgence of 2010 ‘indie sleaze’, 90s punk rock aesthetics, and a move away from cottage-core soft-girl femininity, it’s perhaps no surprise that metal hardware is making a statement on almost everything you can find in your wardrobe. Think bags, shoes, belts, shirts, jeans… you get the point.
Accessories in particular have dominated when it comes to the stud, with their planed surfaces that make it easy to incorporate a metallic edge to any outfit. Alaia lead the studded ballet flat trend, so much so that you can find some sort of variation of the slipper making its way down most high streets (and also featuring in Instagram ‘starter-packs’ for the fashion-forward millennial girl.) Miu Miu, Bally, and Chloe are just a few others that have shown off their own version of the metal clad footwear. For bags, Khaite’s Elena Studded Shoulder Bag has become something of a cult item with the oversized metal accents spotted across social media. Chopova Lowena Spring/Summer 2025 also saw studs on bags, adding them to belts and boots too. Some newer brands have become popularised for their hardware aesthetics with Haikure showing us that studs can work on denim, with their wide leg jeans and jorts offering a more relaxed version of the trend (styled here alongside our very own studded Vinted find), while Gimaguas’s Franca bag has become the ‘It’ accessory this season.
Sister to the stud, eyelets have added another hardware element to much of our clothing. This cut-out option has most recently made its way down the catwalk for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2025 show on midi skirts, while Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection saw eyelets punched through leather dresses and trousers. Eyelet belts have also come back strong, with Isabel Marant, Alexander McQueen, and Ganni just a few of the brands offering them. This definitely brings us back to our Skins era and we know Effy Stonem would love it in 2024.
Approved by everyone from the likes of Kate Moss, 2010 punk rock queen Avril Lavigne, and the internet’s latest girlfriend Gabriette, this trend has us scouring Vinted for our next metal clad accessory. Shop our favourite finds here!
