What Olivia's Looking Forward To for 2025

We get a million press releases a day here at Because HQ, and we delight in sifting through them to edit down what we think matters, and explain why.

because we're obsessed | Jan 10, 2025

2025 is going to be rough. There’s no two ways about it - from politics to social media to fashion, the tension is present. But it’s at these moments when there is the most opportunity for change.  So we’ve asked some of our team to share the things they are most excited about for 2025 - from fashion, to music, to exhibitions and more in case they inspire and provide another lens in which to discover.

Eusexual Awakening
After the oontz oontz that dominated the 2024 music scene, most notably with the lurid brat summer we had, i’m ready to ascend to more ethereal listening plains. Luckily for me, FKA Twigs is set to release Eusexua this month and following the office eroticism that permeated her single Drums of Death, I’ve got one pair of headphones and all the time in the world for this album.

Painterly Eye
I’m sort of a kawaii connoisseur and with that being said I’m really looking forward to Japanese artist, Yoshitomo Nara’s largest European retrospective. Showing at Southbank’s Hayward Gallery this Summer, it’s sure to be an utterly lovely viewing experience. I’m a sucker for his sweet paintings of characters and with bambi eyes and collared dresses.

Superstylin’
Towards the tail-end of last year I sent my mother into the depths of Brockley to poke around Pariah Farzaneh’s open studio sale. Safe to say my stocking was stuffed with the most wonderful goodies. I’m always looking to shop with smaller designers and I’ll have a beady eye on what Pariah has in store for this coming year! Top tip: for a peaceful induction into the chaos of a new year, try burning her divine incense, truly very warming during these bitter evenings.

Head over Heels
I’d consider myself tall (ish) and don’t get me wrong I’ve loved the ballet flat boom of the previous year but I’m ready to take my style to new heights, literally. For 2025 I’d like to introduce more heels into my everyday shoe rotation. While my ankles and purse might not thank me, I’m completely taken with the Ann D wedge boots.  Sleek in silhouette and offering that height without the threat of a teetering stiletto heel, the leather is supple but the style is knife sharp. I’m giving myself this year to try and track them down secondhand. Wish me luck!

National Treasure
Opening in May, the V&A East Storehouse promises to be the archival jewel of London, with over half a million artefacts spanning across every creative discipline imaginable. As an eastender myself, I’m looking forward to mooching down the road to spend my days off wandering around the artefact emporium.
