On our radar: Sophie Bille Brahe
Eponymous jewellery label Sophie Bille Brahe was only founded a year ago and in that short time it has already found it's way into the seasonal selections of fashion's big retailers - Colette Paris and Dover Street Market to name a couple. Although she is a graduate of London's Royal College of Arts, her Scandinavian design heritage plays a large part in her work. Amongst her diverse inspirations she finds creative stimulation in poetry, innovation and the unexplained. These intriguing touch points help to explain her autumn/winter 2012 collection Cassiopeia, the scientific name for the W-shaped constellation, that also includes romantic pieces like the Clair de Lune ring.
For autumn/winter Bille-Brahe has collaborated with Swedish highstreet brand Weekday. The L'Escalier collection is inspired by, amongst many other things, the simple geometry in the Bauhaus dances by Oskar Schlemmer, M. C. Escher's impossible architectural constructions and Piero Fornasetti's magical furniture design. Sophie admits that "it sounds like an awful lot when I reel these inspiration sources off, but in a way I think its just very typical me. I want to do something you don't get bored with, something you continue to fall in love with it again and again." It seems to be having the desired effect - Lykke Li, Madonna, Noomi Rapace and Oh Land are all fans.
You can see the Cassiopeia collection online and L'Escalier by Sophie Bille Brahe is available at Weekday this month.
