Summer might finally be upon us and what better way to celebrate than by donning a pair of sunshine-yellow Manolo Blahniks? The intricacy of their cut out detail is offset with a shock of sky blue and finished with delicate ties to adorn your ankle. Never one to be prim, the unusual ball heel is the work of a Manolo idiosyncrasy for the SS12 season where kitten heels were propped with one steel sphere and the highest stilettos piled high with six. Whatever Rochas designer Marco Zanini is sipping on, whatever inspiration he's exploring and all the blood sweat and tears invested in collection after collection, it's working. On paper orange leather mules with a mirrored heel could have been a disaster but in the hands of Zanini they're sneaking up the list of shoes we want to wear for summer.

In fact, the designer looked to the history of cinema and kitchen sink dramas for inspiration. The mules were paired with a gingham crop top and shorts as paisley pieces, long camel coats and chiffon dresses with a distinct 1950s feel came down the runway. Scarfs were worn around the head with beehives and thin cat-eye glasses. Team these shoes with cropped trousers and a shrunken sweater and imagine you're stepping out of a giant space-age Cadillac in LA.

When the curtain rose on the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2012 show in Paris, it revealed a carousel crafted entirely in white, the spiralling horses daintily topped with the show's models. The show itself didn't disappoint with its continuation of this candy-coloured theme, with a soft, delicate palette spanning the girlish silhouettes. Textures were floaty and translucent with gentle lines. Giving a sleek finishing edge to these powder soft pastels, the Merry-Go-Round pumps adorned feet in a selection of sorbet shades. With their pointed toe and stiletto heel, they sharpened up the pretty softness. The flash of silver in the triangular toe cap is the perfect finishing detail.
