Amber's News Flash - Mother's Day Jewels
I have vivid memories of playing with my mother's jewellery box. Its richly coloured dark wood and mother of pearl panels opening up to a red silk lining and little compartments storing her treasures: strings of pearls, dark jade Art Deco necklaces, diamond and emerald rings and a few vintage charms.
One Mothers Day, knowing how much my mother loved jewellery, I decided to make a necklace of little white shells strung on fishing wire. We were living in the Caribbean back then, with much easier to access shells than beads!
Opening up her jewellery box recently, I found that little choker and it reminded me just how treasured a gift of jewellery can really be. Fifteen years on from that first homemade gift, I fully intend to give my mother jewellery again for Mothers Day, although I'll up the ante with pieces from the specially curated Mother's Day selection on My Flash Trash. May I suggest you do the same?
From Serretta's freshwater pearl bracelets and 8.L.A's chic earrings, to Isolda's one-of-a kind vintage trinkets, make them yours. Well, your mum's… for now!
