    Mirror Mirror

"Mirror Mirror on the wall who's the fairest of them all?" Well that would be you with this shinny metallic handbag by Alexander Wang of course.

But this isn't a fairytale, this is an ushering in of the future with New York wonder boy Wang. Angular lines in high shine silver look like the sort of accessory that Nasa would get excited over. And soft fur tassels ensure that the Wang faithful still get their dose of downtown off duty cool.

Oversized Holly Fulton earrings bring their own strong shapes and paired with the teal Marios Schwab dress this is a moment of overt glamour.

Alexander Wang is a Parsons School of Design graduate who launched his eponymous line in 2004. His grungy aesthetic teamed with directional tailoring has the fashion pack in a frenzy and earned him many an admirer.

    COCKTAIL HOUR

In honour of summer's apparent and untimely demise - and since we could probably all do with a pick-me-up right now - Because presents ten top tips to enjoying the perfect cocktail ring.

    • Prep well: Manicure hands to within an inch of their lives. All eyes are going to be on them so baby soft digits and high shine, juicy red nails are a must.

    • Build your bouquet: Blooming lovely Diorette cocktail rings and a smattering of Dior's Rose Pré Catelan finger fancies should do the job.

    • Added extras: Lacquered ladybirds and handcarved coral and quartz roses bring a certain je ne sais quois to the proceedings. A solitary diamond set on each thorny band adds requisite zing.

    • Ingredient overload? Impossible! More-is-more is hot right now so if you're having trouble deciding what to go for, don't fret. Pile it all in, and on.

    • How to take it: May we suggest on the rocks? Better still, full of rocks. These beauties are brimming with mouthwatering aquamarines, amethysts, tsavorite and pink and yellow sapphires. De-li-cious.

    • Mix it up: Unexpected combos are where it's at which is why we've turned to Susan Caplan for some vintage arm candy. Straight from the 80s come a coil snake cuff and a cabochon spiral bracelet; adding a dash of 50s flavour, Edouard Rambaud's embellished bracelet completes the look.

    • The finishing touches: Orange, watermelon and strawberry go some of the way to providing you with those essential five-a-day but a Mandarin garnet earns bonus points. Look closely and you'll spot one glinting in there somewhere.

    • Don't be shy: A naughty nibble and knowing glance draw attention to those luscious lips and that spirit-level fringe which, frankly, deserve to be shown off.

    • Christen your cocktail: We've called ours the Little Gem.

    • Sit back, relax and enjoy: As if you needed to be told.

    MAGIC JEWELS

Time was, if you wanted to know what the future held. All you had to do was cross a wise woman's palm with silver. But times change, and these days any fortune teller worth her salt knows there are far better ways to get her hands on - and in - premium grade metal of an altogether more desirable kind.

Gazing into her crystal ball, our witchy oracle looks ahead to see what's hot, and what's not, as the cooler days and darker nights set in. Love, life, wealth and health are all well and good but what matters here is the alchemical transformation of raw materials into spellbinding jewellery.

Putting the Hex into hexagons (and other shapes too) our diviner conjures images forth with fingers bedecked in Kara Ross' geometric rings that are bold in stature and rich in hues of violet, turquoise and gold.

With a flash of lightning and a puff of smoke Susan Caplan's vintage treasure swirls into view. Essential witch kit includes an Art Poison Ring (perfect for secreting illicit pills) from their diffusion line Boutique By Susan Caplan and a bracelet festooned with lucky charms on which to make a wish. The snaking silver coils of a modernist ring (Boutique By Susan Caplan) complement an elaborate, forearm-encasing diamante cuff from Erickson Beamon, and a discarded Chanel bangle that erupts with beatle-black beads.

Echoing the herbs and plants used to brew powerful potions, Pomegranate's golden rings boast organic floral carvings that reference ancient tribal artforms of India, Thailand and Turkey. True to the myth that gems are imbued with supernatural qualities, the choice of a limpid green prehnite stone - said to enhance powers of prophesy and inner knowledge - is proof, if any were needed, that when jewellery's at its best, it's nothing short of magic.
