Following internal family quarrels, Gucci seemingly imploded in the 70's and remained troubled until it was famously rescued by Tom Ford in the 1990's, who injected sex and glamour into its collections and subsequently increased its sales by 90% in his first year as creative director of the brand. Gaining momentum throughout the decade, a highlight of which was the acquisition of Yves Saint Laurent, Ford continued to astound his audience with his women's and menswear tailoring until his departure from the Gucci Group in 2004. Taken over by Frida Giannini in 2006, Gucci continues to delivery slick high fashion to a worldwide audience.
