    MONICA VINADER MARIE DISC EARRINGS

Sonia loves this… because these droplet earrings, plated in 18 karat rose gold, breathe a contented sigh of long hot summers. Dreaming of white sand beneath our feet and a cool drink in our hands, the Arabic script evokes imaginings of the exotic travels from which designer Monica Vinader draws inspiration. When summer takes hold and days bleed into nights seamlessly, our daytime jewellery should hold out through the twilight hours and well into the black of night.

A native of Madrid, Vinader is now a Londoner longing for the countryside. First designing bespoke pieces for private clients in 2002, Monica has gained a reputation for luxurious, wearable jewellery, flooded with stones in the colours of the Mediterranean and Arabian textured golds. Now an award-winnning jeweller, her most characteristic pieces are no longer reserved for her private clientele. Although bespoke jewellery is a continuing feature of the Monica Vinader brand we can now all bask in the enjoyment of exotic, easy pieces like these gold coin earrings. Taking us inconspicuously from hot day to warm night, from Madrid to London, from city to countryside but always with a hint of the glamourous adventurer in our swagger.

    STELLA MCCARTNEY WOODEN BAG

Georgie loves this… because Stella McCartney's wooden accordion bag reminds us of long hot summers! As its concertina wooden shell cages the antique-pink satin pouch in the centre we can't help but think of the unfolding of a traditional Spanish fan, the slated tables of Alfresco summer dining or a towel-strewn deckchair by the pool. Its avant-garde design is softened by  warm 'ginger' toned wood and an antique-rose satin centre, making this clutch wearable as well as conceptual.

There are certain things we all know about Stella McCartney. Her esteemed parentage goes without saying (the clue is in the name), and her devout vegetarianism has become synonymous as a characteristic of both her brand and her personality. What we fail to remember is just how difficult it is to continually create beautiful, individual, high-quality accessories without leather. With that in mind, Stella McCartney's spring/ summer 2010 collection, beautiful silk tailoring and perfect micro-pleated party dresses aside, is essentially a how-to for the production of genuinely cool animal-friendly shoes and accessories. Cork soled sandals with stark thin straps, in high and low heels, helped perpetuate this summers kitten heel trend. Pearlescent perspex bags and cuffs in muted golds and cool blues, gave a relaxed inflection to the otherwise formal associations of hard-shelled bags.

When we are unceremoniously  reminded of the reality of the temperamental British summertime, we can always live  vicariously through our new Stella bag.

CORSO COMO FOR LIBERTY OF LONDON SCARF

Georgie loves this… because refined fashion has a respect for elegant culture and heritage. These silk scarves are a re-worked design of the iconic art nouveau 'Lanthe' print, bringing together the exemplary Liberty of London fabric archive, the Italian concept store 10 Corso Como and the work of American, art nouveau inspired artist, Kris Ruhs. In Ruhs' inspired colour palettes of either worn black and ecru or faded pink with yellow and blue, the scarves can be worn around the neck with the clean lines of a pale suit or casually braided in the hair with a sweet Broderie Anglaise dress for summer.

Concept store, 10 Corso Como was set up in Milan in 1991 by Carla Sozzani. Arranged around a beautiful courtyard, Kris Ruhs' design influence is prevalent throughout: from the corners of the cafe, to his jewellery stocked in its fashion shop, exhibitions in the gallery and even down to the design of the store's logo itself. Kris Ruhs' work is influenced by the floral inflections of the Italian Art Nouveau movement. This Mediterranean take on the Parisian artistic movement was christened 'Stile Liberty' after the famous London store that was pioneering in its encouragement of Art Nouveau designers at the end of the 19th century, bringing the influence full-circle in these Liberty of London silk scarves
